Requirements for double majors (generally 10 courses) are determined in consultation with the Chair and may include a combination of Art History, Studio and DArt courses.
Required for Minor in Art History:
6 courses, adhering to the following guidelines:
One (and only one) course at the 100 level
At least two courses at the 300 level
The remaining three courses may be distributed between 200 and 300-level courses as the student wishes.
One (and only one) Studio course may be counted toward the minor
The Art History minor may, with permission of the Chair, pursue an internship, which will count toward the minor.
Students are advised to elect related courses in other disciplines that will be meaningful in enriching their concentration in Art History. It is recommended that art history majors take at least two years of either German or French, especially if they intend to pursue graduate study. The Art History major is to consider ART 201-202 as prerequisite for other Art History courses.

Art Major Acceptance Requirements
Before students will be formally admitted to an art major(excluding art history), they must:
Complete the 15-credit first year foundation sequence (ART 101, 102, 103, 104, 105);
Attain a GPA of 2.5 or better in art Foundation courses taken at SCSU.
Successfully complete the art department portfolio review.
Art Major Graduation Requirement
2.50 or better overall grade point average for all art majors (B.A., B.S., B.F.A.).
Students fulfill the university's upper-division writing requirement by successfully completing one of the following courses: ART 430, 431, 432, 433, 434, 435, 437, 438, 439.
Art History Minor (21 cr)
A. Core Requirements (6 cr)
ART 250 - Western Heritage I—Survey of Art I
ART 251 - Western Heritage II—Survey of Art II
B. Elective Requirements (15 cr)
One course at the 300- or 400-level from either pre-17th century western art or eastern art with advisor approval (3 cr)
Four courses at the 300- or 400-level selected with advisor approval (12 cr)
C. Cognate Requirements (None)
Note:
Students who wish to earn a minor in Art History must earn grades of C- or better in all courses credited to the minor (core, elective, and cognate courses)
Two courses from ART 101, ART 102, ART 103, or ART 110; one course in ancient or medieval art, one course in Asian art, one course in Renaissance or Baroque art, one course in American or modern art, a seminar (which may be ART 440), three additional art history courses or film courses from other departments, and two studio art courses.
