Art History Program
In addition to providing students with a broad understanding of world art, the Art History program focuses upon African American art and the art of the African Diaspora. In beginning and advanced courses and seminars, attention is given to the scholarship of pioneer African American interpreters of art such as Alain Locke, James A. Porter, Benjamin Brawley, and more recent Howard scholars Jeff R. Donaldson and Tritobia Hayes Benjamin. Howard’s legacy of art historical scholarship is continued in the work of distinguished alumni David C. Driskell, Richard J. Powell, Michael D. Harris and Lisa Farrington, among others.
Politics summary
Why study Politics? Politics has a major influence on our rapidly changing global society. You will study how different countries are governed and ruled, the relationships between nations, the prosecution or avoidence of war and be able to identify political issues and events and critically debate political processes and systems.
Course highlights
In the second year of the course, there are opportunities to participate on International Student Exchange Programmes organised by the Department to the Czech Republic and Poland

Major Students having a major in history are required to complete 36 semester hours. Students have the option of choosing a General History major, or in teacher certification either the History Major Teaching Option or the Composite Social Studies Teaching Option. Neither a major nor a minor in geography is available.
Minor The history minor consists of 24 semester hours.
Teaching Certificate Teacher certification in history is available through the History Major Teaching Option. In addition, teacher certification in the Composite Social Studies Teaching Option is also available.
Honors Program History majors may choose to apply for admission to the Academy
