The Department of History was established in August 2005. Its courses place particular emphasis on cultural history, social history, Taiwanese history and other basic studies. Special programs leading to technical mastery of Taiwanese regional history, such as oral history and collecting & editing historical sources will be gradually developed. The Department will also cooperate with neighboring universities, institutions and famous scholars to offer courses relating to the history and the culture of Hakka.

Initially this department was attached with the Department of Economics and then with the Department of Political Science. It however, gained its independent status in February 1959. Thank you for visiting the website of the Department of History. Our remit includes medieval, early modern, modern and contemporary history.
We have more than 600 undergraduates. Most all of whom are preparing for a joint Honours degree in History and another subject. A Single Honours programme in History is now available, with entry at the beginning of Second Year.
