Art majors may not count courses required in Area F toward a minor offered in the Department of Art. The Art major must take additional 3000-4000 level courses to complete the minor program. The academic advisor and department chair must approve these courses.
Art History courses taken in fulfillment of the minor may not be applied towards any of the major requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art, Fine Art, Museum Studies, or Art History.
The History program at the University of St. Francis is designed to help students develop habits of learning and life skills as well as historical knowledge. It does this by promoting knowledge and critical thinking, love of learning, reflectiveness and value awareness, creativity, research and communication skills, and responsibility.

Students gain knowledge of the concepts of art and design that includes the visual arts. Students identify principles of design in a range of visual disciplines. Students discuss works of art and design using the vocabulary of the discipline (in terms of esthetics and the appropriate technology).
Objectives
The visual arts are a critical and dynamic part of a liberal arts education, and occupy an important role in culture. Fine Arts majors at Hofstra experience traditional and contemporary perspectives in the approach to art and design. They acquire knowledge of the fundamentals of art and design, gain experience with the required tools,
Art History includes the disciplines of dance, fine arts, music, and theatre.
