Major in History Education at Fort Hays State University

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

History majors demonstrate their basic knowledge of America and world history either by passing departmental proficiency examinations or by completing 12 credit hours of introductory courses. Those preparing to teach take an additional 37 credit hours of courses, while students interested in pursuing other careers only are required to take an additional 33 credit hours of courses. The program is balanced among American history, European history, and the history of Latin America and the non-western world. If you are interested in majoring in History at FHSU, high school courses in World, United States, and European history will be helpful to you in college, but are not essential. More important than specific high school history courses are curiosity and good reading and writing skills, because history majors must be able investigators, avid readers and effective writers. If you would enjoy being a detective, you will enjoy studying history.
